It is often the case that in marginalized areas, such as refugee camps,
school children are not encouraged to express their creativity due to
the limited scope of the school’s curriculum and a lack of facilities
and supplies. Yet personal artistic expression through various media can
serve to motivate them to learn and to actively analyze and synthesize
the elements of their world. This, in turn, provides the students with
self-confidence and an awareness of their own traditions and struggle.
It is the goal of the AjA Project to undertake and support this sort of
educational efforts by providing leadership, material support, and teacher
training. The AjA Project has two ongoing programs in Thailand. Click
