We are very excited to invite you to the end of semester student exhibition titled “Just Cuz (YOU) Can’t See,” from 5 to 7 pm on Thursday, March 12th at You Belong Here in City Heights. The body of work created by AjA’s Art + Social Justice Juvenile Court and Community School participants is a culmination of the dedication, hard work and perseverance displayed over the course of the past 5 months.
Focusing on symbolism, portraiture, and documentary photography, participants were invited to flip the lens inward and explore the many facets of their own identities. Participating in various photo activities, field trips and visits from local guest artists, Alejandro Villegas and Michelle Guerrero, each participant created a series of images and narrative that speaks to the many places they come from and where they see themselves going.
Please invite your colleagues, friends and family (event flier attached)! We will be serving food and non-alcoholic drinks. The exhibition is free to the public and will be up for one day only!
A very special thank you to our program funders, California Arts Council and Serenity Grace Foundation! Without your generous contributions, AjA’s Art + Social Justice programs would not have been possible!
