Founded in 1997 Corporación Fe y Esperanza is a grassroots effort
to educate displaced children arriving to El Progreso, a neighborhood
in the hilly outskirts of Bogotá, who do not have opportunities
to study. Fe y Esperanza educates over 300 children from grades k-7.
Nelson Pajaro who has educated displaced children for over twenty-five
years founded Fe y Esperanza. Fe y Esperanza’s values of tolerance,
peaceful coexistence, respect and cooperation ripple throughout the
community. Cooperative initiatives with the school include vocational
employment projects, such as a recycling cooperative, that involve the
students’ family members and create a much needed sense of community
solidarity.
