| .background | Cabin John Middle School, Bethesda, Maryland "I learned how much trouble people have in Colombia, also I
really enjoyed how kids showed us what is important to them."
"The picture that most impacted me was the picture of the little
girl playing dead. It showed me how it was to be in a place with war and
war exposed to children." "What I learned the most was that I should not take things that
I have for granted. For example, school. I never realized that kids would
want to go to school."
Emails to AjA Team Member Alex Fattal: "For those of us that live abroad it’s refreshing to read
positive news of this type." "I feel very fortunate in living here in US, but my heart has stayed
in Bogotá, from where I left almost 7 years ago…the tough
situation faced by innumerable children in Bogotá who live in precarious
conditions has not been publicized as it should, but I want to take this
opportunity to thank you for your efforts in their behalf. These are children
who deal with situations that no child should, such as that young one
who said that his uncle was killed by refusing to be part of the guerrilla
struggle, and the kid did not know where to go from there. Perhaps your
efforts in creating awareness of this social problem will positively influence
others in the future." "We Colombians who in one way or another have been displaced by
the violence in Colombia, appreciate that you have experienced first hand
the cruel reality that millions of displaced people live, send a copy
of this material to president George W Bush, so the immigration courts
can know the truth about our conflict. " "(DCP) truly impacted me, it’s
cool to facilitate spaces to express feelings, especially in these children,
to build dreams and to project to the rest of society the reality they
live." "I tell you that the show is going very well, it’s been highly
visited and has received lots of positive comments and many people are
interested. I will try to help so that the project can continue in its
path, because from the heart I believe that things like this are too important
and help life to continue to triumph." "It makes me happy to see the final result and I have to confess
that I cried while I looked at the photos." Hello Alex. I am living in Tampa as a Fulbright student at the University
of South Florida in a Master Degree program. I have seen your pictures
and believe me I was touched for the Colombian situation. Most of the
people that I know in Colombia, even my family, comes in some extent from
violent displacement process. So, your pictures took me back to some of
the situations that I have known. My reality sometimes is too far from
the reality that the children depict in the pictures, I have almost forget
it.
